Moving Image Arts Degree Programs
The Department of Moving Image Arts offers premier, interdisciplinary
programs of study that combine the liberal arts with focused attention on the
production and critical examination of moving images.
The department offers two undergraduate degree concentrations:
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Film Studies
Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) in Film Production
Each degree track develops a student's
fundamental understanding of
pertinent historical, critical and theoretical issues and
for the practical application of up-to-date media technologies.
studies promote deeper conceptual understanding and greater
pro?ciency through completion of required concentration-speci?c
and interdisciplinary electives.
As part of its professional emphasis, the department provides an
opportunity for practical work in both the classroom and the field.
Internships are strongly encouraged.
The department also offers a graduate studies track in the OCU Master of
Liberal Arts (M.L.A.) program. This program is affiliated with the OCU Center
for Interpersonal Studies through Film and Literature, the student organization OCU Filmmakers Guild and the Oklahoma Center for Media Literacy.
All moving image arts students are required to successfully complete
formal competency measurements to foster their development as creative
scholars: The first, a preliminary measurement, is taken
prior to the sophomore year Project One course. All majors
are introduced to the production process in a required,
hands-on film production class. The outcome is a collectively produced
short class project.
The second (Project One) measurement, taken in the
second semester of the sophomore year, is an individually
produced short, sync-sound moving image production. The
third (Capstone) measurement, in the senior year, is either
a comprehensively planned and produced moving image
thesis project or an indepth senior seminar with a written
thesis requirement in moving image theory/culture.
