OCUReads Creative Competition 2011

OCUReads announces…

MUSINGS…Creative reflections on OutcastsUnited: An American Town, a Refugee Team, and One Woman’s Quest to Make aDifference by Warren St. John.

OCUReads is new students’ first opportunity to engage with the community of scholars that is central to the OCU experience. In August, as part of Stars Week: New Student Orientation, new students will participate in a series of discussions and activities providing a deeper appreciation of Outcasts United:An American Town, a Refugee Team, and One Woman’s Quest to Make a Difference by Warren St. John.

In addition to these discussions and activities, all incoming freshmen may participate in MUSINGS…Creative Reflections on Outcasts United: An American Town, a Refugee Team, and One Woman’s Quest to Make a Difference by Warren St. John. COLLABORATION,COMMUNITY and DETERMINATION describe key elements in the story of the Fugees and their coach, Luma Mufleh. Students are invited to respond to these themes in the format of their choice. Students who wish to participate may select from the following categories:

LETTERS…

Essay

Poetry

Short Story                 

 

ARTS…

Visual Art (2 or 3D)

Photography

Dance

Music

                 

LETTERS entries: Must be submitted by email as a Word attachment, by mail, or in person.

ARTS entries: Performance Arts must be submitted on DVD. Visual Arts entries must be submitted in a form ready to exhibit, i.e. mounted for display, fully assembled, etc.

All entries may either be posted on the OCUReads web page and/or displayed during the author’s visit.

 

Cash Prizes will be awarded:

LETTERS:

1stPlace:     $250.00

2ndPlace:     $150.00

3rdPlace:     $100.00


ARTS:

1stPlace:     $250.00

2ndPlace:     $150.00

3rdPlace:     $100.00

 

Each winner will also be invited to attend dinner with the Fugee coach, Luma Mufleh.
