Mind the Gap

Mind The Gap is a university wide approach to building community through global relationships that are conceived within our campus community.  Oklahoma City University recognizes the cultural, social, and educational gaps that exist throughout our world.  We strive to continually enrich our community culturally and understand the value that diversity provides in the academic community. We are resolute in our mission to prepare our students to become effective servant leaders in service to their communities and with this charge we have compiled social, cultural and co curricular programming that accentuates the academic experience for our students.

The phrase “Mind the gap” is used in London as a warning to train passengers of the gap between the train door and the station platform. Our use of the phrase serves as a reminder of the barriers and challenges that this gap represents.  This gap represents the missed communication that exists when cultures fail to appreciate the value that each brings, the systemic access limits that are associated with higher education, and the opportunities lost to build relationships. Our desire is to continually develop programs that eradicate these gaps. The associated program application provides opportunities for the OCU community to be partners in a more global community.

These programs provide a cultural gateway into the mission and vision of our university. Through these programs the OCU community will become more culturally sensitive, more culturally centered and more immersed in the global experience at our University.

OCU Star Connect

OCU STAR Connect

Registration for Star Connect is still open! This is a new initiative out of SGA, MSA, and student life that has been endorsed by President Henry and that we are very excited about. We have had an overwhelming response from our international students and we desperately need more domestic students to participate to keep up with their demand. This is definitely a good problem!

Star Connect's purpose is to develop understanding, friendship, and unity among U.S., International, and exchange students at Oklahoma City University. Star Connect aims to provide avenues for students to foster valuable global relationships and peer support networks through peer mentorship among friends. Through this program, students are matched according to hobbies, majors, and countries of special interest. Each International or exchange student is matched with one or two American students and invited to participate in monthly programs that are free of charge. In addition, students are encouraged to get together outside of official Star Connect events and share their respective cultures with one another through normal daily life.

If this sounds like something you would like to participate in please fill out the registration form that describes you so that we can match you to your Star Connect friend as soon as possible.

If you are domestic student, Select this link to your registration form.

If you are an international student, Select this link to your registration form.
