Clinton J. Normore
Director of Multicultural Student Affairs

Clinton was born in Wichita, Kansas to Clifford and Ernestine Normore.  He is the youngest of five children, all of whom received a college education on basketball scholarships.  He has a twin brother named Cliff.

Clinton graduated from Wichita East High School and attended Wichita State University for three semesters.  During his time there he was a starter on the Basketball and Football teams.  He then transferred to the University of Kansas where he was a starter on the football team and point guard on the 1988 Championship Basketball team.  In 2004 Clinton was selected the 64th best athlete in Wichita’s history.

Upon the completion of his college athletic career he became a police officer, in both Lawrence, Kansas and in Wichita, Kansas.  Clinton was class President of both his Lawrence and Wichita training academies.  While serving in Lawrence Clinton was one of the youngest members to ever serve as a Field Training Officer and shift supervisor and presented workshops on gang violence.  He was also selected by the FBI to participate in a national AFIS training development program.  While serving in Wichita he was selected as a member of an elite Mounted Patrol Unit.

In 1996 Clinton seized an opportunity to go into business.  Having always worked with youth coaching basketball teams and providing personal basketball training he launched In Your Face Athletics LLC, which he currently owns.

In 1999 Clinton was named Women’s Head Basketball coach at Heritage Hall High school, in addition to teaching Physical Education.  In 2001 he pursued an opportunity to work at Oklahoma City University as Coordinator of Intramural Sports & Recreation.  During his work in this position he grew the department from 7 student staff members and a $76,000 annual budget to 30 student staff members and $111,000 annual budget.  He re-designed the weight room to include more cardio and free weight equipment as well as an “ab room.”  Utilizing his entrepreneurial experience, he introduced revenue generating programs and streamlined operations which provided an additional $5,000 in restricted funds annually and allowed for significantly more intramural sport offerings.

In 2004 Clinton was promoted to Director of Intramural Sports & Recreation.  As Director he managed to negotiate a lease program for cardio equipment in the weight room which did not significantly increase the annual budget requirements.  In this position he was also responsible for designing and developing the “Student Planner.”  He solicited the assistance of a national advertising agency which yielded a Planner Cover that received national acclaim by being awarded and selected as a marketing center piece for Premier Planner’s national campaign.  In August of 2005 Clinton was promoted to Director of Student Activities and Multicultural Student Affairs.  Within 6 short months in this position he was able to develop a student organizations manual and an orientation leaders program.  In February of 2005 he was again promoted to the Director of Multicultural Student Affairs and Career Services Advisor.  Clinton oversees the Clara Luper and American Indian Scholarship Programs and advises 12 student organizations.

Under his leadership the department of Multicultural Student Affairs (which did not exist earlier), has hired a Coordinator of Multicultural Programs and directly services approximately 300 scholarship students with academic and social support services.  During his tenure he has developed an International Student Handbook, revamped the International student Airport pickup process and raised approximately $80,000 through grants and entrepreneurship.  He developed and implemented a book library program which saves the university thousands of dollars each year.  His department provides leadership and long rang planning in the area of diversity.

Through hard work and determination he has been honored to be a member of the University Leadership Team, Served on the University’s Strategic Planning Committee and selected by the President to Co-Chair the President’s Council on Diversity.  Clinton has presented diversity programs for student organizations, university leadership teams, as part of faculty and staff development programs, and at the NASPA (National Association of Student Personnel Administrators) regional conference in 2006.

Clinton has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Masters in Business Administration from Oklahoma City University.  He is married and has three adult children.
