Miss Black OCU 2009

DeEtta Cravens

DeEtta Cravens is a Clara Luper Scholar at Oklahoma City University where she is working to obtain Bachelor degrees in Spanish and Political Science and a minor in Ethics. Throughout her collegiate years, she has been actively involved with City Care’s Whiz Kids and the CLUB which are programs for Oklahoma City’s at-risk youth and aimed at developing life skills as well as confidence and character. She has also been a program leader of the Girl Scouts In-School Leadership Development Program in which young girls are exposed to the lessons of girl scouting including respect for themselves and others, the importance of education, and confidence in their values.

For 15 years, she has been an active member of Girl Scouts of the USA, and she hopes to impact the lives of many young girls through her work with this organization. She currently serves as a member of the board of the United Nations Association and is the Director of the Adopt-a-Minefield program. She currently serves as Miss Black Oklahoma City University and was first runner-up at the Miss Black Oklahoma pageant this past summer.

Upon graduation, she hopes to attend the United Nations University in Tokyo, Japan, and the Monterey Institute of Advanced Foreign Studies in Monterrey, California. Her career ambition is to be Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to advocate for the rights of human trafficking victims.
