Current and Former KSN Students Honored by March of Dimes
Three of KSN's finest were recognized as finalists for March of Dimes Nurse of the year in a gala event on September 29, 2011.
Melissa Gordon, RN, was a finalist in the Charge Nurse category. Melissa has been employed at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center since June of 2001 in the surgery department. After just one year, she was promoted to Nurse Manager, and over the last 9 years, she managed teams in the Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, Otorhinolaryngology, Plastics, and Oral Surgery Departments. Melissa will graduate in May of 2012 our RN-to-BSN program and will graduate in May 2012.
Tela Brown, TNCC, BSN, RN, of INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center, was a finalist in the Emergency/Trauma category. She has worked as an EZR Nurse, Coordinator, Case Manager, Lead Administrative Supervisor, and Director. Tela is also a member of the Emergency Nurses Association and has her Certification in Emergency Nursing. As a result of performance improvement initiatives utilizing LEAN methodology, her emergency department has reduced code stroke door-to-drug times by approximately 25 minutes. As a result, Veterans Health Administration will soon be recognizing INTEGRIS Southwest Medical Center as a national leader and model for other organizations. Tela completed her BSN at KSN in 2008.
Kristen Mills, BSN, RN, was a finalist in the Public Health and Ambulatory Care category. Prior to current tenure at Woodward County Health Department, she worked as a Medical-Surgical and Emergency Room nurse at Woodward Regional Hospital, then as a Clinic Nurse Supervisor and Triage Nurse for a local Woodward family physician's office.
