Leadership begins with developing a servant’s heart. Mission trips focused on health care prepare students to become servant leaders by introducing them to various cultures and providing them with the tools necessary to make a difference in the lives and health of others. Although students go to serve, they oftentimes find they themselves have been blessed by the gift they attempted to give.
A Kramer School of Nursing student reflected upon this in an assignment following a previous mission trip. The student stated, "The one thing I will keep and treasure always: the first children I encountered in their home. They love and laugh and still flourish even when conditions are harsh. I will hold the mama in my heart as she faces the uncertainty of life for her and her children. I'm blessed that God used me to show His unfailing and unchanging loving kindness."
Trips are planned annually to a site in Oklahoma.
At least one international mission trip is planned annually. Countries usually considered include Honduras, Mexico, Kenya, and others. Our next mission will be as follows:

This trip is covered by financial aid but not covered by block tuition. A non-refundable deposit will be due to Shannon Rowland before confirming participation. Study Abroad: Nursing in England at Plymouth University
This program allows nursing students to learn about the differences in health care management between the United States and England as they relate to provisions of care, funding, public health, patient education and legal environment. Classroom visits at Plymouth will be supplemented by site visits to 3-5 health care facilities. Students will also experience cultural events and scenic excursions.
Students will spend two weeks on a faculty-led program and earn three credit hours. Plans are still being finalized. Please contact Dr. Susan Barnes at (405) 208-5917 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Shannon Rowland at (405) 208-6404 or email@example.com for more information.
