Powerful Prose Book Review Features Latest Work of Malcolm Gladwell
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University and Full Circle Bookstore’s Powerful Prose book review series continues at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 25 with a discussion about how we approach obstacles and disadvantages.
OCU President Robert Henry will join OCU Professor of English Booke Hessler, and Bob Spinks, Director of OCU’s Non-Profit Leadership Program, to review
“David and Goliath . . .Underdogs, Misfits and the Art of Battling Giants” by Malcolm Gladwell. Hessler is Carrithers Chair of Writing and Composition at Oklahoma City University, and is the assistant director of the creative writing program. Spinks is professor and chair of sociology and justice studies at OCU.
“Powerful Prose: Great Ideas and the Literature that Advances Them” is a monthly series led by OCU President Robert Henry and Oklahoma City University professors. All presentations are free to the public. The event takes place at Full Circle Bookstore at 50 Penn Place in Oklahoma City.
In “David and Goliath,” Gladwell offers a new interpretation of what it means to be discriminated against, cope with a disability or suffer from any number of other setbacks in life.
Future titles and dates for the Powerful Prose series are “Heretics and Heroes” by Thomas Cahill on March 20 and “Bully Pulpit” by Doris Kearns Goodwin on April 23.
