Christmas Takes the Stage at Oklahoma City University
Christmas will take the stage via music, theater and dance from Dec. 5 to 14 at Oklahoma City University.
Nearly 150 Oklahoma City University dancers will jump into Christmas with “Home for the Holidays” from Dec. 5 to 8 at OCU’s Kirkpatrick Auditorium. The American Spirit Dance Company, under the direction of Jo Rowan, will perform a sensational array of new dances intertwined with perennial audience favorites for the show, which is as lavish and fun-filled as anything on Broadway. The show is recommended for ages 6 and up. Show times are 8 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6, 2 and 8 p.m. Dec. 7 and 2 p.m. Dec. 8.
More than 250 Oklahoma City University singers and orchestral musicians will celebrate “Songs of Comfort and Joy” at the annual Christmas Vespers performances Dec. 6 and 7.Four OCU vocal ensembles will perform including the University Singers, Ad Astra Women’s Chorus, the University Men’s Chorus and the Chamber Choir. An instrumental prelude, spotlighting the OCU Symphony Orchestra, organ students and the Graduate Flute Quartet, begins 30 minutes before each performance. Show times are 8 p.m. Dec. 6 and 4 and 8 p.m. Dec. 7 in OCU’s Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel.
TheatreOCU and Oklahoma Children’s Theatre will team up for a stage version of the quintessential Christmas story. Joe Landry’s “It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play” will take to the stage from Dec. 5 to 14 at OCU’s Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center.
The holiday classic, based on the American film, comes to life as a live 1940s radio broadcast, complete with live sound effects and commercial breaks. With the help of a small ensemble that brings numerous characters to the stage, the story of idealistic George Bailey unfolds as he considers ending his life one fateful Christmas Eve. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Dec. 5 to 8 and Dec. 13 and 14 in the Burg Theater.
