Artist Mike Wimmer Hosts Water Media Class During 'Maymester'
Oklahoma City University’s artist in residence Mike Wimmer will be offering a three-week intensive introductory class on water media at the OCU School of Visual Arts.
Wimmer will be teaching water color, gouache, and acrylic during the classes at 9:30 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. on Mondays through Fridays, May 13 through June 3, in the Norick Art Center.
The intensive is open to the public on an auditing basis. Those who are interested in applying for the course may contact the OCU Undergraduate Admissions office at (405) 208-5050.
Wimmer, who is also chairman of the OCU Art Department, painted many of the works in the state Capitol Building. He started working on a national scale primarily as a children’s book illustrator. His other projects include creating a more kind and gentle Mr. Clean illustration for the popular cleaning products company, the cover art for Disney’s “Lion King” soundtrack, commemorative can designs for Planters Peanuts and an ornament featuring Will Rogers to hang on the White House Christmas tree as Oklahoma’s representative decoration.
OCU started the Maymester program last year as a way to offer students a chance to take interesting classes for credit within an accelerated time frame. The courses also cost less per credit hour than they do during the traditional semesters.
