Oklahoma City University Hosts Peace Festival
The local celebration for the 6th annual International Day of Peace Festival will be held at Oklahoma City University beginning at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 21.
The event is open to all ages and will feature multicultural entertainment and a large pinwheel labyrinth display. The festival will open with a drum circle and continue with activities including informational booths, guest speakers and an origami exhibit.
Students from around the Oklahoma City metro area are working on pinwheels to represent peace and harmony as part of the Pinwheels for Peace Project. Their pinwheels will be on display in OCU’s quad lawn.
The project has become an annual international celebration since it was created by two art teachers in Florida in 2005. Last year’s event featured more than four million pinwheels installed at 3,500 locations around the world, according to the local organizing committee.
Performers at Oklahoma City University’s event will include the Oklahoma University Student Doctorial Woodwind Quintet, Clips & Hips Dance Studio, Junior Miss Asia Angela Zhu, Linwood Elementary School Choir, Mayan School of Dance, Dove Science Academy Folkloric Dancers, Marie Leslie with a Japanese dance, Celtic Cadence Irish dancers and the Seeworth Academy Major I.M.P.A.C.T.S Choir.
