Oklahoma City University Dance Company Aids Tornado Recovery While Performing in Branson
OKLAHOMA CITY
– Oklahoma City University’s American
Spirit Dance Company gave two thrilling performances last week for the College
of the Ozarks Department of Theatre near Branson, Mo., but before they finished
they gave the community more than gift of dance.
After
viewing news reports of the tornado devastation in Branson, dancers and
technicians raised more than $300 from dance and arts management students at
Oklahoma City University to donate to the Community Foundation of Taney County
Tornado Fund.
“The
students felt empathy for and kinship with the members of the large
entertainment community in Branson and wanted to help,” said John Bedford, dean
of OCU’s Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management.
The
American Spirit Dance Company, directed by Jo Rowan, is an ongoing project of
the school, which prepares dancers and arts managers for careers in the
entertainment industry. Graduates can be found performing in Broadway shows, at
Radio City Music Hall, on cruise ships, in Las Vegas shows, in videos and film
and in Branson shows. In Branson, graduates have performed with Andy Williams,
Glen Campbell, Shoji Tabuchi and others.
