Oklahoma City University’s Religion School Celebrates Anniversary
OKLAHOMA
CITY – Oklahoma City
University’s Wimberly School of Religion will celebrate its 30th
anniversary next month during the 2012 Martha Jean Lemon Special Lectures. An
open house at the school will begin at 4 p.m. Feb. 16, followed by a reception
and dinner with lectures about “The Bible and the Church” scheduled throughout
the day.
Bishop Robert E. Hayes Jr. will speak at
1 p.m. Feb. 16 on “How the Bible Shaped the Church” at the university’s weekly
chapel service. Dr. Amy Oden, dean of the Wesley Theological Seminary in
Washington D.C., will discuss “How the Church Shaped the Bible” at 3 p.m. and
Hayes and Oden will present a dialogue lecture about their topics at 7:30 p.m.
All lectures will be held in the Bishop W. Angie Smith Chapel and are free to
the public.
Tickets to the reception and dinner can
be purchased for $10 each by calling Cathy Bewley at (405) 208-5284. Tickets must be purchased by Feb. 8.
“For the past 30 years, the Wimberly
School of Religion at Oklahoma City University has dedicated itself to
preparing students to serve their church and community through a variety of
Christian vocations,” said Sharon Betsworth, director of the Wimberly School of
Religion. “We hope our alumni and others will join us in celebrating our past
accomplishments and our vision for the future.”
