Harry Potter Group Plans Wizard Ball at Oklahoma City University
The Oklahoma Wizards League (OWL) will hold its third annual wizard rock charity ball, the Hogwarts Hootenanny, at 7 p.m. Feb. 5 in the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center at Oklahoma City University. The center is located near Florida Avenue south of the Freede Wellness and Activity Center.
Wizards and witches with a social conscience have organized the event featuring six bands singing songs about the “Boy Who Lived” while raising money to support the Harry Potter Alliance, a social activism group that bills itself as “Dumbledore’s Army for the real world.”
The Hogwarts Hootenanny will feature performances by Brian Ross of Draco and the Malfoys, The Remus Lupins, The Whomping Willows, Lauren Fairweather of the Moaning Myrtles, Justin Finch-Fletchley & The Sugarquills and local wizard rockers Into The Pensieve.
The event will also include the Muffliato Auction, a silent auction featuring Harry Potter-themed items from wands to CDs to artwork. Continuing the wizard theme throughout the event, “muffliato” is a spell Harry and his friends use when they do not want to be overheard.
“The ball is the highlight of our year,” said OWL President Kassy Nicholson. “We have top-notch musical acts from across the country. Everyone has a blast, and all the money goes to a great cause. We think Harry would be proud.”
The show is all ages, but some songs have adult themes much like the Harry Potter books themselves. Adult tickets are $30. OCU students and children up to age 15 are $15. Tickets are available at the OWL website, www.okwizards.com.
