L.A. Chamber Orchestra Veteran Joins Bass School Faculty
Violinist/violist Sam Formicola is the newest member of the strings faculty at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University.
He plays first violin with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and is a veteran of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, performing on the soundtracks of more than 200 movies. A former member of the Oslo Philharmonic, he toured Europe under the direction of Mariss Jansons.
Formicola earned degrees from Rice University and the Barratt-Dues Musikkinstitutt in Oslo and studied at the European Mozart Academy in Poland, performing chamber works in Kraków, Prague and Florence.
He has worked extensively with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and has held positions with the Colorado Symphony and Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra in Philadelphia. He toured Mexico with the Orchestra of the Californias and has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and the San Diego and Pacific symphonies.
An active chamber musician, Formicola is one of the founding members of the Romauldo String Trio and co-director/co-founder of the Gold Coast Chamber Music Festival in Calabasas, Calif.
