Former Miss America Releases New Book
Former Miss America Jane Jayroe will sign copies of her collaborative book titled “Devote 40 Days” at noon Jan. 26 in the Wanda L. Bass Music Center at Oklahoma City University. The music center is located at Blackwelder Avenue and N.W. 25th Street.
“Devote 40 Days” is a collection of short, inspirational stories written by Jayroe and other successful Oklahoma women including former First Lady Cathy Keating, basketball coach Sherri Coale, Oklahoma Supreme Court Justice Yvonne Kauger and journalist Linda Cavanaugh.
“It’s difficult to explain how my faith in God has been my grounding force despite all of life’s ups and downs, but I can certainly share it through stories about certain experiences,” Jayroe said. “Along the road, I have been fortunate to make many friends who have overcome obstacles with strength and perseverance to find their own successes. This book includes their experiences, also.”
Jayroe, an OCU alumna and trustee, won the 1967 Miss America title. She went on to become a television news anchor and Secretary of Tourism in former Governor Frank Keating’s cabinet. She has co-authored two other books — the autobiography “More Grace than Glamour” and the state commemorative book “Oklahoma III.”
Other contributors will sign copies of “Devote 40 Days” during the book release event including LaDonna Meinders, Miss Oklahoma 1956 and a benefactor of higher education; Brenda McDaniel, former school teacher and wife of former OCU President Tom McDaniel; and Justice Kauger.
Books are available as a digital download for $8.99 and paperbacks are $16.74 each, including tax and shipping. Proceeds will benefit OCU and books will be available for sale at the release event.
