OCU’s Home for the Holidays Dance Extravaganza Returns to the Stage Dec. 9 to 12
OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City University’s American Spirit Dance Company will put Home for the Holidays audiences in the Christmas spirit this year with the beauty and splendor of the annual holiday dance show.
Hailed as “the best Broadway-style dance Christmas extravaganza west of New York City,” the show returns to the Kirkpatrick Auditorium at Oklahoma City University Dec. 9 to 12.
This year’s performances are dedicated to the memory of Katie Lunn, an OCU dance alumna who was tragically killed earlier this year.
Directed by OCU Dance Chair Jo Rowan, the renowned dance company will showcase a mix of newdances this year and traditional audience favorites. The show captures the spirit of the season with Santa Claus, dancing bears and the high-kicking enthusiasm of 36 dancers in a chorus line of Santa’s helpers. Tap dancing soldiers will wish the audience a cool Yule, Rudolph and the reindeer will rock around the Christmas tree and ballerinas in poinsettia tutus will twirl through 19th century shoppers.
“A beautiful new nativity scene of simple elegance expresses the meaning of Christmas as we celebrate Christ’s birth,” Rowan said. “Let our gift of dance put you in the holiday spirit. Join us and come ‘Home for the Holidays’ this Christmas season.”
Show times are 8 p.m. Dec. 9, 10 and 11 and 2 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12.
The show is recommended for audience members ages 6 and up. All seats are reserved and cost $28 each. Group rates are available. For tickets or more information, call (405) 208-5227 or visit www.okcu.edu/ticketoffice.
Rowan founded The American Spirit Dance Company in 1981 to celebrate America’s unique contributions to dance through jazz, tap and musical theater and to providestudents with professional performance opportunities. The company is critically acclaimed in the U.S. and overseas and has become one of the premier performing ensembles in central Oklahoma.
