
Instrumental Faculty Play Summer Festivals, Conventions
Instrumental faculty from the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University are continuing their professional activity during the 2010 summer recess.
Tomasz Zieba, instructor of cello, is teaching and performing at the European Musical Workshops summer festival in Kolobrzeg, Poland, July 17-30. “It is a very prestigious festival in Poland,” Zieba said. “I will be working together with the most popular and acclaimed strings teachers in Poland and with Polish string teachers teaching abroad. Bassoonist Anna Resnick performed solo and ensemble pieces at the International Double Reed Society Convention, June 22-26, hosted this year by University of Oklahoma. Info: http://www.idrs2010.org
Also in June, Resnick and oboist Lisa Harvey-Reed led the new Oklahoma City chapter of a weeklong double reed camp -- Bocal Majority Bassoon Camp with Operation O.B.O.E. -- at the Casady School. Info: http://www.bocalmajority.com
John Schimek, director of strings and instrumental music education, conducted his original works at the Edmond Summer Strings in June, and directed the 17th annual Oklahoma City University Bass Camp July 18-24. The camp sold out with 54 bassists from seven states and two continents.
