Oklahoma City University Wins Stroklahoma Regatta against UCO
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City University Stars rowing team won the four (4+) and eight (8+) races Saturday against the University of Central Oklahoma to win the Stroklahoma Regatta on the Oklahoma River.
In the first race of the day, the eight’s battled for the first 1,000 meters of the 2,000-meter race course before OCU broke away and finished with a 10-second lead, clocking a time of 7:08. The Stars lineup was led by coxswain Briana Hurley with rowers Brittni Slattery, Katie Sondag, Megan Duffy, Dinah Harjo, Kat Schiro, Hydi Gibson, Rose Lane and Sarah Meyer.
UCO’s varsity, novice A, and novice B crews finished with a 7:18, 7:49 and 8:05 respectively.
During the four’s race, UCO’s A and B crews had an aggressive start and took an early lead until OCU moved past them in the first 250 meters and held the lead to the end. With Hurley, Slattery, Sondag, Duffy and Harjo, the Stars finished with a time of 8:01. The UCO Broncho’s A and B crews finished with a time of 8:17 and 8:29.
Small boats from the OCU crew competed in an intra-squad race to conclude the regatta. Schiro finished first in the single (1x) in 8:29, and Gibson and Lane rowed an 8:33 in the pair (2- ). In the lightweight single (1x), Jane Imfeld finished with an 8:37 followed by Meyer with an 8:45.
The Stars will line up against the University of Tulsa and UCO April 10 on the Verdigris River in Catoosa, Okla.
