OCU Encourages High Schoolers to Think About Weddings
A workshop at Oklahoma City University will get high school students thinking about marriage with a special intensive course. The Wedding Planner workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Ann Lacy School of American Dance and Arts Management on Northwest 23rd Street near Blackwelder Avenue.
The Entertainment Business program at OCU is hosting the workshop to show students what it takes to become wedding planners. Rachel Jacquemain, director of the Entertainment Business program, said the industry is seeing steady demand.
“There are about 2 million weddings in the U.S. each year, and more and more brides are relying on the services of a professional wedding planner,” Jacquemain said.
The workshop will focus on nearly every component of what wedding planning requires including décor, music, invitations and cakes, she added. It will be taught by university professors and industry professionals.
The Wedding Planner is part of a series of workshops at OCU called Exploring Entertainment that included Creating Atmosphere and Event Planning.
The cost for the workshop is $20 per student. Rates for groups of five or more students are $15 per student and 10 or more are $10. Students can register online at www.okcu.edu/entertainmentbiz or by calling (405) 208-5644.
