Knight Conducts "Hit On All Sixes" at Virginia Symposium
Dr. Edward Knight, director of music composition at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University, will conduct his most recent band work at the Virginia-based New Band Music Symposium for intercollegiate honors band on Feb. 12-13.
“Hit On All Sixes” is Knight's ragtime-inspired, jazz-infused work for wind ensemble. The piece also will be performed April 14 by the University of Florida Symphonic Band, under the baton of Dr. John M. Watkins, Jr. On June 4, Knight will conduct his work as part of the Guest Composers Series at California State University Bakersfield.
The 10-minute work was written for and premiered by the OCU Wind Philharmonic, under the direction of Dr. Matthew Mailman, on Dec. 4, 2008.
Knight is a 2009 Djerassi fellow, a 2008 Ucross Foundation fellow, a 2007 winner of the Aaron Copland Award, and a past fellow at the Yaddo and MacDowell artist colonies.
Five commercial CDs feature Knight’s work, including recordings from ERMMedia and Capstone Records and a solo CD released by Albany Records. He has directed the composition program at Oklahoma City University's Bass School of Music since 1997.
