OCU Jazz Ensemble Plays Holman, Herman, Hancock
The Oklahoma City University Jazz Ensemble kicks off 2009’s last week of classes with a free concert 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7, in Petree Recital Hall. The performance will feature music from the bands of Stan Kenton, Bill Holman, Woody Herman, Buddy Rich, Herbie Hancock among others. Admission is free and open to the public.
Featured soloists are Nikki Robbins on alto and tenor sax; Lisa Hollowell, clarinet and vocal; Robert Redmond and Tomasz Dabrowski, trumpet; Brian Anderson, guitar; and Alex Lofland, drums.
Songs on Monday night's play list include “Ya Gotta Try,” “Inner Crisis,” “Red Roses for a Blue Lady,” “Come Rain or Come Shine,” “23 Red,” “In the Mood,” “Eye of the Hurricane,” “I’m Serious About That Matter,” “Blue Skies,” “Bright Eyes,” and “The Farewell.” The concert’s finale is Chris Braymen’s “Irrelevant, Incompetent & Immaterial.”
The OCU Jazz Ensemble is under the direction of Professor John P. Allen.
