Stars Return for OCU Homecoming
School pride will fill the air as Oklahoma City University hosts Homecoming festivities Nov. 6 and 7. With a record-high new student enrollment and an athletics department adding two national championships for a total of 36, school spirit is on a high note for this year’s festivities.
The weekend begins at 8 p.m. Nov. 6 with the annual lip sync contest sponsored by the OCU Student Government Association. Campus groups and organizations will compete in the Henry J. Freede Wellness & Activity Center at N.W. 27th Street and Florida Avenue for cash and prizes during the annual contest.
The Marianne Vannatta Race with the Stars begins at 8 a.m. Nov. 7. The race features a sanctioned 5K run and a one-mile walk. The race is organized to promote health and wellness in the community and to increase scholarship support for graduate nursing students at OCU’s Kramer School of Nursing. The race begins near the Freede Wellness & Activity Center.
A carnival from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the Quad Lawn outside of the Tom and Brenda McDaniel University Center will add some pre-game pep. The carnival will feature inflatable playgrounds, a rock climbing wall, face painting and game-sign making. Free hot dogs and chips will be served.
The visitor center will conduct campus tours from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., starting from the stairs on the south side to the University Center.
The OCU Stars women’s basketball team will play Langston University at 1 p.m. in the Freede Wellness & Activity Center. The men’s basketball team will play Dallas Christian at 3 p.m.
The Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner and Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony will conclude Homecoming weekend with a reception at 6 p.m. and awards ceremony at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall of the University Center. Each of the schools at OCU honors one of its alums during the Distinguished Alumni awards.
