Annual Oklahoma City University Regatta Goes Western
‘Boot of the Oklahoma’ Set for Oct. 3 and 4
OKLAHOMA CITY— The 2009 Boot of the Oklahoma will be held Oct. 3 and 4 at 1391 Exchange Ave. on the western basin of the Oklahoma River, a location that lends itself to boots, barbecue and racing. The event will feature 4,000-meter head races and 500-meter OG&E Stampede sprints. Free parking will be available on site.
Oklahoma City University’s annual Head of the Oklahoma Regatta will move west to the Stockyards District becoming the Boot of the Oklahoma for this year only while construction on the Devon Boathouse, home of OCU rowing, the Chesapeake Finish Line Tower and development on the Oklahoma River shoreline is underway at Regatta Park.
Teams from across the nation will compete beginning at 8:30 a.m. each day. The blu denim VIP party will kick off the weekend Oct. 2 at Regatta Park, 725 S. Lincoln Blvd. Proceeds from the evening will benefit youth outreach and the OKC National High Performance Center athlete development programs.
Saturday will feature 4,000-meter collegiate, masters and juniors head racing and 500-meter OG&E Stampede sprints. Head races will continue Sunday and corporate racing will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday. Both days will feature family activities, live entertainment, a children’s area and food.
