University Students Help Area Schools With Back-to-School Improvement Projects
OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma City University student-led volunteer effort Saturday will help area schools get prepared to start classes.
“Stars 4 Schools” volunteers will gather into four groups and help with tasks like painting, yard work and library setup. The schools include Westwood Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, Eugene Field Elementary, Taft Middle School and Hawthorne Elementary.
Corey Hill, OCU Student Life events coordinator, is anticipating approximately 20 volunteers in each group for a total of more than 105. They will be made up of university students, faculty and staff.
“This is a great way to show new and returning students the value of community service,” Hill said.
The work at each school will begin at about 10 a.m. and continue until the projects are finished in the afternoon.
“Stars 4 Schools” is an annual part of OCU’s New Student Orientation Week. University classes begin Monday.
