Logan Culwell '08 Selected for Ithaca Conducting Program
Logan Culwell, a 2008 graduate in music theater from Oklahoma City University's Bass School of Music, has been awarded a full-tuition assistantship as the top candidate for the Ithaca College School of Music master’s program in conducting for music theater and opera. He will enter Ithaca in the fall, with anticipated graduation in 2012.
“I think it is a testament to OCU's diverse and well-crafted program that as a vocal major I was able to receive enough conducting training to not only be qualified for this program, but to actually be chosen for it as well,” said Culwell, an alumnus of the voice studio of Professor Brenda Holleman.
"Logan is one of the brightest all-around musicians we've ever had at OCU," said Dr. Matthew Mailman, director of conducting at the Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. "The number of things he can do well, plus his pleasant personality, will make him a very marketable young conductor."
“It's an especially exciting achievement for me not only because of the excellent education and experience I will be getting, but also because only one applicant is selected each year,” Culwell said. Ten finalists were considered for the lone opening.
“In addition to classes and private conducting training, I will get to be the assistant music director for the Ithaca College musical theatre program's productions, as well as the music director for their annual senior showcase in New York City,” Culwell said. “I also will be assisting in the logistical aspects of putting orchestras together for the musical productions as well as accompanying rehearsals and classes.”
