Jazz Ensembles to Play Bass Music Center
The Oklahoma City University Jazz Combo and Jazz Orchestra will perform standards from Lerner and Loewe to Chick Corea to Russell and Barroso on Thursday, March 12. The 8 p.m. concert, in the Large Recital Hall of the Bass Music Center, is free and open to the public.
Manna Nichols and Peyton Crim will sing with the Jazz Combo, which will perform “It's Almost Like Being in Love ,“ “Stella By Starlight,” “Windows,” “Baby It's Cold Outside ,” and “Wooden Steps.”
The Combo is comprised of Robert Redmond, trumpet; Joe Doubleday, vibes;
Brian Anderson, guitar; Brian McQuade, bass; and Jerred Murphy and Jeremy Parr, drums. Dr. Cory Gavito is guest pianist.
The Jazz Orchestra program includes “Take the A Train,” “Incommunicato,” “Lullaby of the Leaves,” “Switch in Time,” “Brazil,” and “Magic Flea.”
OCU’s Jazz Orchestra features trumpeters Robert Redmond, Tomasz Dabrowski, Dwight Goetz, Nathan Reed and Cotey Bowman; trombonists Chris Lecher, Josh Attaway and Justin Sechrist; saxophonists Brady Rohling, Lisa Hollowell and Erin O'Connor; and a rhythm section comprised of Julie Huang, piano; Brian Anderson, guitar; Sam Hinson, bass, and Jerred Murphy, Eddy Streck, drums.
