Tchaikovsky Winner Barry Douglas Holds OCU Master Class
Students at Oklahoma City University will jumpstart the new semester Jan. 9 with an intimate master class with pianist Barry Douglas.
Douglas was the first non-Russian pianist since Van Cliburn to win the gold medal at the quadrennial Tchaikovsky International Piano Competition in 1986.
Three student pianists from across the state have been selected to perform for Douglas in Petree Recital Hall. From the University of Central Oklahoma, Jonathan Ledbetter will play Bach's Concerto in D Minor; from the University of Oklahoma, Heejin Jang will play Chopin's Andante Spianato and Grand Polonaise Op. 22; and Oklahoma City University’s Ewa Plonka will perform Brahms' Variations and Fugue on a Theme by Handel, op. 24.
Admission is free and open to the public. The master class is sponsored by the Oklahoma City Orchestra League.
