Oklahoma City University Welcomes Dynamic Freshman Class
Oklahoma City University welcomed one of its largest freshman classes to campus this year. The dynamic class of 372 is comprised of 34 high school valedictorians, nine salutatorians and three National Merit winners.
Combining steady enrollment gains with increased retention, the total number of students enrolled at OCU – 3,897 – is the largest in nearly a decade.
Eduardo Prieto, vice president of enrollment services at Oklahoma City University, said the entire campus community is engaged in recruitment and retention efforts. He said the addition of student life activities, programming, continued facility upgrades including a new residence hall and OCU’s ability to attract students from strong academic and diverse backgrounds have contributed to increased retention.
“We have a great group of students,” Prieto said. “We have been fortunate to attract students who excel in all areas of academics, take an active role in leadership activities and have a strong sense of service to others. All things combined, it is a great time to be at OCU and our students are enjoying their experience.”
Current four-year highs this year at Oklahoma City University include enrollment among international students, graduate enrollment and the number of students in the music, dance, nursing, theatre and arts and sciences programs.
Founded in 1904, Oklahoma City University is a non-profit, comprehensive, private United Methodist university that is consistently ranked among the best in its category by several publications. OCU students pursue academic excellence through a rigorous liberal arts core curriculum that focuses on their intellectual, moral and spiritual development.
