OCU Music School Launches ‘Kamp’s Kabaret’
Oklahoma City University’s Wanda L. Bass School of Music is partnering with historic Kamp’s Deli to offer a showcase of OCU’s best and brightest talent with Kamp’s Kabaret on select Saturday evenings throughout the year. Kamp’s is located at 1310 N.W. 25th St. just east of the OCU campus.
Sponsored by adjunct law professor Jay Shanker and the deans of the music school, Kamp’s Kabaret aims to create a place where students, families and the community can come to have dinner, relax and listen to great music.
Shanker believes the cabaret will be a great outlet for OCU’s vast and diverse talent. He says that OCU’s store of talent reminds him of the cabarets and jazz clubs he would visit when he lived in New York and California and is excited to be involved with the project. Aaron Brown, senior musical theatre major and student coordinator of Kamp’s Kabaret, said he wants to get as many students involved in the process as possible.
The opening night of Kamp’s Kabaret will be Sept. 13 with two shows beginning at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. The shows will star OCU students Jane Bunting, Jeremiah Downes and Alyssa Fox, and will feature contemporary and classical pop, jazz and musical theatre pieces. The following showcase Sept. 20 will feature special performances of great 80s songs from “Footloose,” which opens Sept. 27 in OCU’s Kirkpatrick Fine Arts Center. Subsequent performances and lineups will continue throughout the year.
There will be a $5 cover and a $2.50 discount cover for OCU students at the door. For more information, join the Kamp’s Kabaret Facebook group, visit the website at www.kampskabaret.com or email at info@kampskabaret.com.
