Oklahoma City University Circle K Club Takes Service to Heart
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University has added a new club to the list of activities students can join to serve others. OCU CKI is a Kiwanis College service, leadership and fellowship organization founded by Becki Anders, a business sophomore.
Anders began working on an OCU chapter last summer before she started as a freshman in the fall of 2007. Long before Circle K received its charter Anders was busy finding an advisor and recruiting new members.
“I like to serve. By taking the leadership role, I brought service and fellowship to OCU,” Anders said.
Circle K made huge strides for being a first year program. They established themselves among the OCU family and attended the district convention. Anders was selected to receive the Kiwanis Merit Scholarship.
Anders and OCU Circle K member Kelsey Walker, a sophomore, will attend the International Convention in Denver this August.
“I have learned about time management and about organization. These are two key factors you have to have when you are leading a group. An organization is only as good as its leader,” Anders said. “I knew going into to this I needed strong, dependable and enthusiastic people like me. What I got was better than I could have hoped for.”
This summer, Circle K will meet to discuss the next school year and make plans for the future. Their biggest project of the year will be hosting a carnival on campus for the Make a Wish Foundation.
