Ensemble Placement Auditions for Incoming Students
Wind Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra
Chair Placement Auditions
Instrumental Chair Placement auditions will be scheduled Sunday, August 24, 2014. Audition music is posted on the Symphony Orchestra StarNet Page and audition times will be posted by August 1. Contact Brian McQuade if you have questions regarding this process at email@example.com.
Instrumental auditions are held at the beginning of each semester and after each concert. The best players are awarded the highest chair, regardless of class rank or major. Auditions are held behind a screen. Sight-reading is included in the audition. All percussionists will be asked to audition on snare, mallets and timpani.
Assignments for Wind Philharmonic and Symphony Orchestra will be posted the following morning. Pit Orchestra assignments will also be posted following the auditions.
There will be separate auditions for Jazz Ensemble and Pep Band.
Choral Placement Auditions
All new vocalists will be enrolled in choir. However, all vocalists must do a choral placement audition during new student orientation week. Choral placement auditions will be held on Monday, August 18, 2014, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Tuesday, August 19, 2014, from 10:00 a.m. to noon and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. in Bass Center B207.
All new vocal students must complete a choir placement audition before the first day of class, Monday, August 25, 2014.
There will be a prepared example for you when you schedule your audition time. Included in the audition will be general vocalizing and sight-reading.
Auditions for choir placement will take place in Professor Willoughby's office, BC B207. If you have specific questions, please call Dr. Ellefson at 405-208-5014 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
