Ryan Robinson was appointed adjunct instructor of tuba and euphonium at the Wanda L. Bass School of Music in 2011, and is tubist in the faculty brass quintet.
He has taught at Tarleton State University and was awarded a teaching fellowship at the University of North Texas and a graduate assistantship at Northwestern University.
Robinson earned his bachelor's degree in tuba performance from the University of North Texas, where he studied with Regents' Professor Don Little and Dr. Brian Bowman. He earned his Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, where he studied with Rex Martin. In 2010, Robinson finished the coursework for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of North Texas; he plans to complete his dissertation in 2012.
Upon returning to Texas for doctoral studies at UNT, Robinson maintained an active career as a freelance performer, teacher, and clinician. In 2008, he was awarded the position of substitute tuba with the Houston Symphony. He has been invited to perform as a soloist at several international competitions and festivals, including the Ticino Musica Festival in Lugano, Switzerland; the Leonard Falcone International Euphonium and Tuba Festival; the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute; and the Arnold Jacobs Mock Orchestra Audition at the International Tuba Euphonium Conference.
As a chamber musician, Robinson performs regularly with the OCU faculty brass quintet. He is a founding member of the Bel Canto Brass Quintet, the Highland Brass Quintet, and the Fantasticos Tuba Euphonium Quartet. He has performed with the University of North Texas faculty brass quintet, the Sundance Brass Quintet, and the Tarleton State University faculty brass quintet.
Robinson has performed on recordings of Mahler's 5th Symphony with the Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, and on several recordings with the UNT Wind Symphony on the GIA label. His professional affiliations include the International Tuba Euphonium Association, Texas Music Educators Association, Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society, and the American Federation of Musicians.
