Dr. Melissa Plamann was appointed university organist and assistant professor of music at the Bass School of Music in August 2010.

She earned her B.M. in organ performance and a B.A. in English literature from Valparaiso University. She was awarded her M.M. degree at Emory University, studying under the direction of renowned organist Dr. Timothy Albrecht. She was awarded her DMA in organ performance from Indiana University-Bloomington in 2010. At IU, she studied with Dr. Larry Smith. Her doctoral thesis is titled, "A Disciple of God Among Us: A Theological Analysis of Olivier Messiaen's La Nativite du Signeur (1935)."

She returned to Emory as Albrecht's sabbatical replacement and headed the graduate organ program in 2008. Plamann has taught in the organ, piano, and church music departments at Indiana University-Bloomington as associate instructor.

A champion of new music, she presented a recital of American organ concerto premieres, including the debut of Tilo Medek's Italienisches Konzert, at Emory University and performed on a concert series in Germany and the Czech Republic.

Plamann specializes in 20th- and 21st-century American works, and enjoys collaborative works.
