Under the guidance of Dr. David Steffens, OCU's Percussion Professor and Principal Percussionist for the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, students combine traditional technique and modern styles to reflect today's musical needs. Students will learn techniques for all percussion instruments and participate in percussion ensemble rehearsals and performances. Whether you are in marching band, symphonic band or your school's orchestra, you will gain many valuable skills at this pre-college intensive program.
"I just wanted to tell you how much my students enjoyed this percussion camp! I had two 7th grade students attend and they still talk about it. I love that OCU puts this camp on! Thank you! I will continue to encourage students to attend!" MS Band Director in Oklahoma.
Daily instruction - 9am to 4pm - will include technique classes for snare drum, marimba, vibes, timpani, drum set and hand drums. Students will also play in drum and percussion ensembles and participate in a public performance at the end of the week.
Instrumental students who submit registration form and $35 application fee by March 1st, 2014 receive 10% off their entire tuition. Early application also provides financial aid consideration for qualified applicants.
Registration deadline is May 1st. Applications received after this deadline will be considered late and the registration fee will be $45.
OCU Summer Music is pleased to offer a $50 scholarship to students selected to participate in their state's honor orchestra (All-State). Documented proof of participation/award required.
