The Oklahoma City University School of Law offers two major scholarship programs for students with a high GPA (generally 3.5 or above) and high LSAT (generally at the 80th percentile or above).
Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship
One is the Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship, an especially prestigious, nationally recognized educational support program. Scholarships from this program cover all tuition and fees, and provide an annual $400 book allowance and $2,500 living stipend (for a total of over $15,000 for the first year). The program also assigns a mentor -- a successful practicing attorney -- to each recipient, who can provide personal and professional guidance. There is a separate application and an application deadline of February 15. The applicant must also have been admitted to the School of Law by that date. Thus, students planning to seek a Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship should apply early to the School of Law. The total three year financial benefit of the Sumners Scholarship is over $45,000.
To be considered for a Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship, a student must be a United States citizen, rank in the top quarter of his or her class, take the Law School Admissions Test by no later than December, be admitted to the Law School by February 15 and submit an application form for the scholarship by February 15. An applicant must be a resident of, or a graduate of a school in, Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma or Texas. The Hatton W. Sumners Scholarship application form and information booklet may be obtained from the Law School Admissions Office.

OCU Merit Scholarship
The second scholarship program is the University's Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships from this program cover about 2/3 of tuition -- last year they amounted to $10,000. There is no separate application and all admitted students are considered. Selection is based on LSAT and GPA. While there is no formal deadline, students are strongly encouraged to apply for admission by April 1.
Kerr Foundation Scholarships
The Kerr Foundation has made a large grant to the School of Law to endow a program for scholarship assistance. Approximately 20 grants are made from these funds each year to upper-class students; the grants are based on academic performance, service to the school, financial need and character.
Other Scholarships
Upperclass students may apply for other scholarships funded by donations from alumni and supporters of the School of Law. The amount of money available varies from year to year. These awards are based on academic performance, service to the school and financial need.
Members of minority groups may apply for special scholarship assistance. Native American applicants may also be eligible for scholarships funded by various American Indian organizations.
