Greetings Campus Community,


Thank you for a warm welcome to the OCU Community. In the brief span of four weeks as vice president for university advancement and external relations, I have quickly become accustomed to the friendliness of this campus. Having lived in central Oklahoma for more than two decades, I knew of OCU by reputation. My experience confirms the reputation we have for offering a welcoming climate and individualized challenge for our students and colleagues. A key aspect of my work is to help others see the opportunity of investing in OCU’s mission, working with us to expand the scope of impact and influence of this great university.

Our team in advancement and external relations is committed to working with colleagues to equip our students for success. We have had several transitions in recent months, and I want to offer a brief overview of our structure and leadership personnel. In communications and marketing, Sandy Pantlik joined OCU late in the summer and is providing leadership for news and information, graphics and web services, and institutional marketing efforts. We are in the midst of a rebranding project which will help us garner the attention of prospective students, and Sandy’s staff is filling key roles in the creative process and implementation of the rebranding. As we help those students to take a closer look at OCU, the interaction they have with our faculty and staff will “close the deal” as they realize the opportunities afforded to them on this campus.

Our alumni relations area, led by Cary Pirrong, is working to strengthen ties with more than 24,000 people who have already identified themselves as members of the OCU family. We are seeking to provide alumni with programs and services which keep them actively engaged with their alma mater, helping to convey the quality of OCU in their own circles of influence, and celebrating the prestige of their degrees from a vibrant private university.

Our development staff is led by another newcomer to our staff, Amanda Davis, assistant vice president for development. Amanda brings a great amount of experience in helping connect alumni and friends of an institution to tangible ways they can undergird the institution. She joins a group committed to increasing annual operational funding for OCU and committed to maintaining an effective database resource on OCU alumni, parents and friends. We have a great story to tell, and we have a vast array of ways for people to be involved in financially supporting this university.

I have worked in private higher education advancement roles for 26 years. I believe private higher education offers specific value benefits for students and for those who want to generously support development of tomorrow’s leaders for our city, state, nation and world. The best way for us to achieve greater success is to work as a team, sharing ideas, sharing vision and possibilities for the future of our university. I appreciate the gracious welcome I have received and I look forward to building relationships with you as colleagues. We are daily touching the future through this institution.
