Greetings Campus Community,

Welcome Back!

Fall activity is returning to campus and before long, students will be back in classes, performances will be back on stage, and distinguished speakers will be back at the podium. Perhaps no place is as fascinating as a college campus such as ours in the fall.

I hope this semester greets you refreshed, renewed, and eager for the exciting school year ahead. We already have some terrific events lined up, including our 90th theater season beginning with Othello Sept. 13 to 29 (more info), our 61st opera and music theater company season beginning with Legally Blonde Sept. 28 to 30 (more info), a visit by human rights advocate Jody Williams on Oct. 24 (more info), our critically-acclaimed American Spirit Dance Company in the annual Home for the Holidays extravaganza Dec. 6 to 9 (more info), and many more. With all of this activity just around the corner and the promise of cooler temperatures, I am eager for fall to arrive!

Please remember to help our new students and their parents as they arrive to move in next week. Move-in day will be a monumental occasion in their lives, and we want them to have a wonderful experience.

Sweet Event

Many of you took the opportunity to join us for the Staff Appreciation Ice Cream Social last week. We had a great turnout, and I enjoyed visiting so many of our talented, dedicated staff members. Thank you for all you do to make Oklahoma City University a great place to work and a great place to learn. See the fun here!

Great College to Work For

Speaking of a great place to work, The Chronicle of Higher Education has named Oklahoma City University a “2012 Great College to Work For.” This is the fifth year for The Chronicle’s report and the fifth year for Oklahoma City University to make the list.

It is an honor to again be ranked with an elite group of colleges and universities that are among the very best to work for in the country.

The report is based on a survey of more than 46,000 employees at 294 colleges and universities. Only 103 of those 294 institutions were recognized as one of the best universities to work for in the nation.

We were specifically recognized for our tenure clarity and process, which play a role in our efforts to recruit and retain extraordinary faculty. I am proud of our remarkable professors who give students personal attention and make learning fascinating.

Watch for more good news about Oklahoma City University in the Aug. 24 edition of Friday Forum. In the meantime, send me your thoughts!
