Kelly Holst, Bass School of Music Voice Faculty, coloratura soprano, is an active
performer of operatic, concert and recital repertoire,
appearing with organizations such as the Michigan
Opera Theatre, the Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, the
Battle Creek Symphony, the Lafayette Symphony, the Handel and Haydn Society of Boston, the Indiana University Opera Theatre, and the University of Michigan Opera Theatre. Ms. Holst's operatic roles include Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Olympia in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Elizabeth Taylor in Michael Daugherty's Jackie O, Tisbe in Hasse's Piramoe Tisbe, and Cupid in Purcell's King Arthur. Her concert experience includes Handel's Messiah, Fauré's Requiem, Graun's Der Tod Jesu, Haydn's Harmoniemesse, as well as various Bach cantatas and song recitals.
Upcoming engagements
Coloratura Soprano role in Postcard from Morocco with the University of Michigan Opera, Zerlina in Don Giovanni with Arbor Opera Theatre; Solo appearance at Carnegie Hall with the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
Awards
Encouragement Award at the Metropolitan Opera District Auditions in St. Paul, Minnesota;
Winner, Upper Midwest Regional Metropolitan Opera Auditions, 2000; Nicola Rossi-Lemeni award from the Bloomington, Indiana chapter of the Society of Arts and Letters; the Emerging Artist Award from the City Opera of the Quad Cities; graduate fellowships at both Indiana University and the University of Michigan.
