The Bankruptcy Project for the Western District of Oklahoma is conducting its initial training on April 11th from 1:00 to 5:00 pm in Sarkeys Room 110.

The Project is a collaboration among the law school, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc., and the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Oklahoma. It is estimated that no pro se Chapter 13 debtor completes a case, and only a fraction of pro se Chapter 7 debtors obtain a discharge. The Project will provide help pro se debtors prepare and file their initial bankruptcy documents, provide assistance with reaffirmation agreements and chapter 13 plans, and provide assistance on adversary proceedings, all with the help of volunteer bankruptcy practitioners in Oklahoma.

Training will be provided by the Court, the Chapter 13 Trustee’s Office, and local practitioners. Training is open to all students who have taken Consumer Bankruptcy or who intend to take the class. The training session will address general bankruptcy issues as well as practical advice from the Court Clerk’s Office. The first Project client advisement will be scheduled in June with additional sessions to take place once a month at the Court. Specific dates will be determined upon release of the Fall Schedule.
