Location: Astronomics
110 East Main Street, Norman, OK
Details: A brilliant starry night is one of nature's most thrilling wonders. Yet in our world of nights as bright as days, most of us no longer experience true darkness. Artificial light has spread from our pulsing cities to our suburbs and rural towns, where night skies are a shadow of what they were twenty years ago. Exposure to artificial light at night has been cited as a factor in health concerns ranging from poor sleep to cancer. Light pollution also impacts wildlife and their ecosystems as well. In "The End of Night" Paul Bogard travels the globe to find the night where it lives, blending personal narrative, natural history, health, science, and folklore to shed light on darkness.
Author Paul Bogard reads from his recent book, "The End of Night: Searching for Natural Darkness in an Age of Artificial Light." This is a public reading; free for all ages.
