Dayhike/Car Camp at the Keystone Ancient Forest and Lake Keystone State Park

    • 6/8/2013 : All Day
Add Event to iCal/Outlook
Location: Keystone Ancient Forest and Lake Keystone State Park
Near Sand Springs
Details: This is a Nature Conservancy preserved area that is run by the City of Sand Springs as well. Every second Saturday there is a volunteer guide at the entrance. The site contains some of Oklahoma’s oldest trees…virgin forest, undisturbed by development. This is a prime example of the State’s “Cross Timbers” forest ecosystem. (I would encourage you to do a little reading from your computer search beforehand.) After our hike, we will set up camp at Keystone State Park on the shores of Lake Keystone. We can swim and hike there for the afternoon or check out some of Tulsa's attractions (zoo, Gilcrease Museum, Philbrook) before heading back to camp. We will meet up at the Braum’s store at the 15th Street exit off I-35, in Edmond, next to the Wal-Mart. We will take off at 9:00 AM. Those of you wishing to carpool can elect to leave your vehicle at the park and ride at I-35 and 122nd a short distance on the way from the Braum’s. I will be inside having breakfast at 8:30. You can join me if you wish. It should only take 1½ hours from there to the trailhead.
